I thought a redneck was someone who dressed in denim dungarees with a straw hat and a red and black chequered shirt - or is that a hillbilly? That is a hillbilly. And hillbillies, fyi, don't exist.

You met hillbillies? I thought they'd died out like after the early 20th century; what were they like? Btw, what part of Texas was that?

Yeah, people always mistake hillbillies, rednecks, blue collar, and white trash. They are all different levels of ignorance and crude behavior (and hillbillies are disconnected from the world). Hillbillies are the worst, then white trash, then redneck, then blue collar (which is basically just a hard-working person who never went past a high school education and often works at a place such as a hardware store or auto shop; my dad, for example, is blue collar). Also, you don't necessarily have to be bigoted to be a redneck - it's just fairly common association because people think every ignorant person in the South is prejudiced because they're uneducated and they lost a war that occurred one hundred and fifty years ago. If you'd like to describe a type of person, I can tell you what category they fall into if you're confused.
