That's one thing we agree on. And seeing as how I know nothing about getting published professionally and you have a couple of years more experience and education in these matters, I'd advise him to lean more on your advice than mine.

I appreciate the commentary, guys - but Pestilence is right; I know how to write with correct grammar and without extra stuff like "heck" and "I swear" but I'm taking the perspective of the narrator, and frankly, that's his character; it's how he writes. I'd be willing to change smaller parts of the story, but I'm not going to change it drastically. The dialect was what made it so fun to write. And if some publishers don't accept it because of that - so be it.
