Welcome to the site! I don't think age is really a factor here, so you're ok (at least I hope so, for your sake. J/K!) I'll probably check out your story sooner or later, and give an in-depth review. Kinda what I'm known for here. I've loved the little I did read, and I can tell you're just one more in a long line of members who are better at this writing thing than I am.
So, tell us more about yourself (if you wanna). You don't have to share anything personal, but I do wanna know stuff like why you want to write, what got you into writing, what kinds of pieces you like to write, about what topics, in what genres, etc. Heavy stuff like that.
Also, are you a dude or a chick?

I'm into that uber-intellectual High Modernism exemplified by Joyce, Beckett, Faulkner, and Proust. I'm a dude, but I'm quite fond of chicks. I'm hoping to get a doctorate in English so I can teach at the college/university level and publish critical writing. Hooray for British Modrnism!
I want to write because the language is flawed. I want to better understand the disjunct between the words we use and the concepts and objects they signify. Samuel Beckett was the MASTER of this, I highly recommend him to anyone who enjoys having to think about what they just read, which I am obsessed with trying to make people do.
The topics I prefer are linguistic decay, the flaws of Levi-Strauss-style binary structuralism in the vein of Descartes, cyclical existence, lack of progress due to living in the past, infertility, and the treachery and ambiguity of language.

Also, I love the stream-of-consciousness technique. Slipping in and out of different character's minds and allowing the words of my third-person narrator occasionally to be influenced by a character is one of my favorite techniques along with wordcombination (word-running). One has to be careful with wordrunning, though, to make sure he doesn't over do it. I'm not a genius like James Joyce, haha, so I have to put that kind of thinking on a leash.

So many Brits on this site. Tut, tut. Well, at least you're a dude. One more ally on the Mars side (we totally need that around here).
Where'd you study and what'd you study there? It's obvious that you're highly educated (unlike me, the college dropout).
Also, welcome again, and I know you'll fit right in.

Hell, Faulkner's the only American I mentioned haha. I study English at Colby College, am in my third year, and am frantically trying to look for good grad schools. Not all education comes from schools, Pestilence. You've learned that by now, I'm sure.

You bet. It doesn't hurt to be college educated, but college isn't for everyone, and I know it isn't for me.
So, you study English. What career are you planning to pursue?

I'm going to try to be a college professor myself. I'd love publishing literary criticism and teaching. It's like a dorky, horrible wet dream of mine.

You know, I immediately got a vibe from you that you'd be a good teacher. Weird. Good luck with that.

Yes, I forgot to say that. We're in short supply of fun here lately, so we dudes have to kick things up a notch here.

Hey don't mess around with Funkytown.
You know, I really like this forum, though the membership here is pretty low. I think I'll be an asset to the critical aspect, and hopefully wil be able to help a lot of people improve their writing while learning a little about my own.
