I want a lot of opinions on this, so don't be afraid to post a lot! What comes to your mind when you think of unicorns? What legends do you think surround them? What powers do you think they have? What weaknesses? Basically, just from your memories, supposing unicorns were real (along with the magic an everything else surrounding them) give all the information you have! I really appreciate all the feedback I can get. Remember, I want it from your memory. This is more of a study on people than trying to figure out unicorns.

What I rember hearing about unicorns is that they are immortal and have the power to heal.

Sorry, but I never learned much about unicorns. :-\ All I know is that they're pretty and have one horn. Not much help, am I? So, yah. The thing that comes to mind when I think of them is a comic I saw once--two unicorns are standing, talking to each other. You can see Noah's arc in the background. The male unicorn is defending himself and says, "But look dear, I traded them for two first class tickets on the NEXT boat!"

LOL!!!
Well, I don't know much - they have the power to heal, and can defend themselves really well against attackers, and are fast runners. The only thing that weakens them is a beautiful young maiden - they'll just go straight over to them, won't harm a hair on their heads. I call it a weakness because hunters use the girls to lure the unicorn, then attack it for its horn, which they use in healing ointments and things.
Like I said, I don't know much.

I think of pure white, the horn is not smooth but like a bore, a little smaller than a medium horse. The first Unicorn that comes to mind is Jewel in The Last Battle. I don't use equine creatures myself just because they are overused, so I don't study them much. Sorry nobody has given you much to work with.

Omgeee I love unicorns! And I like your avvie, only b/c it's from my fave kiddy movie (heh Elonwe, like I said in the PM ) I think of horse like powerful yet gentle, pure white creatures, with feathered hooves, and a lions tail, but with a horses head, mane and body. I always think of forests along with them, and basically the stuff Ash said. Healing - they are exceptionally good at it, and although gentle, if angered, they either flee or attack, but they supposedly lived in a forest, and guarded all the animals in it. When I was younger I used to believe that they were real, because my auntie had a book, which supposedly had 'photographs' of real unicorns. I spent hours and hours pouring over it, determined that I would soon find one. I never did I could babble lots of stuff about them....

last battle was good!
ok everything I know about unicorns
unicorn has a billy-goat beard and cloven hooves which makes it different from a horse
the horn of a unicorn is called the alicorn
unicorn throughout medieval period was used as a symbol for christ but don't ask me why!!
and the thing about a beautiful maiden only works if she's a virgin
heres a quote from marco polo on what he thought was a unicorn Marco Polo described them as: "scarcely smaller than elephants. They have the hair of a buffalo and feet like an elephant's. They have a single large black horn in the middle of the forehead... They have a head like a wild boar's… They spend their time by preference wallowing in mud and slime. They are very ugly brutes to look at. They are not at all such as we describe them when we relate that they let themselves be captured by virgins, but clean contrary to our notions."
can anyone tell me what he was describing? ;D I'll give you a muffin if you can heh heh
one other quote i found was about a prehistoric creature thought to dye out in the last ice age, but then again, maybe not!
"There is nearby a wide steppe, and there dwells, it is told, an animal smaller than a camel, but taller than a bull. Its head is the head of a ram, and its tail is a bull’s tail. Its body is that of a mule and its hooves are like those of a bull. In the middle of its head it has a horn, thick and round, and as the horn goes higher, it narrows (to an end), until it is like a spearhead. Some of these horns grow to three or five ells, depending on the size of the animal. It thrives on the leaves of trees, which are excellent greenery. Whenever it sees a rider, it approaches and if the rider has a fast horse, the horse tries to escape by running fast, and if the beast overtakes them, it picks the rider out of the saddle with its horn, and tosses him in the air, and meets him with the point of the horn, and continues doing so until the rider dies. But it will not harm or hurt the horse in any way or manner.
"The locals seek it in the steppe and in the forest until they can kill it. It is done so: they climb the tall trees between which the animal passes. It requires several bowmen with poisoned arrows; and when the beast is in between them, they shoot and wound it unto its death. And indeed I have seen three big bowls shaped like Yemen seashells, that the king has, and he told me that they are made out of that animal’s horn."
and thats everything I know and the second quote i found on the internet ;D
