The following is a snippet of Chapter Five from Great Affectations:

In others it is a sly way of gaining information about one’s enemy. In this situation, it is a combination of both. I suggest you feign passiveness in order to elicit concern of your weakness in your husband so his own weakness can then be exposed through subsequent sly passiveness.”
