I have a profound dislike of Myspace and that profound loathing is only slightly lessened for Facebook, so... nope, don't have one. Won't ever have one.
In my opinion, there are better ways to communicate with one's friends. As in, call them. Or meet with them somewhere. Or send them a letter.

I always feel a bit on the nerdy side when I have to admit that the closest thing I have to a MySpace is an Amazon account...

I'm the one who voted for "Facebook?". No further comment.

Ah, but sometimes your friends live far away or you only have oportunity to see them rarely. Besides, swapping Facebook accounts is safer that phone numbers, and you're more compelled to talk to them than if they're just another name on a phone list. Sure, there are better ways to communicate, but the Internet is perfectly acceptable - as we are proving by talking here, lol.

Yes, but the difference is that here I don't know you. On any of the forums I visit, I'm communicating with people I have never met before and will probably never meet in "real life" (whatever that means.)
On Myspace (spawn of Satan) and Facebook (demon child), however, most of the time you are using it to communicate with people who you do see and do know from "real life." And it's an artificial replacement that is destroying the English language, undermining the ability to discern from body language and verbal cues, and ultimately destroying the basics of human interaction.
I accept for when I'm on message boards such as this one, because then I'm using the forum to converse and discuss (or go wild and crazy).
The difference is that on message boards you're not building and molding relationships, as people might be on a Facebook or Myspace.
(As for their purpose in contacting people far away, who may have moved away... that's different, I suppose. But otherwise Facebook and Myspace are no subsitute for actual human interaction.

Of course they shouldn't be used as a means of replacing anything. I just find it conveniant. Oh, and I agree with you about MySpace - spawn of Satan.

I love MySpace, and I don't have enough friends on Facebook to want to join it.
