In my novel "Plotseekers", the main character is Constantine, who I wanted to be a good hero; brave, knowledgeable, tolerant and capable. As I wrote I discovered that he's certainly not perfect; he gets afraid of things just like anyone else, but he deals with them anyway (true courage). I am somewhat worried that he is not realistic enough because of lack of flaws. I'd like someone to read the chapters I have up now with the goal of critiqueing his character; I mean maybe I'm doing ok, but I don't know. Also tied in to this is what would raise the stakes in the case he's working on for him personally; his main problems now are the case itself and, when it is solved (which it is partly in the tenth chapter), his grim apprentice, Mourn. If anyone has read the Dresen Files, basically I fear Constantine is not enough like that series' flawed hero, Harry. Harry has dipped into dark magic (and while I do not want Constantine to have that literal dark edge) and is physically crippled because of his initial use of it. This is a nice 'quirk' of his character... I suppose what I am trying to say is, would someone critique the characterization of this story?
