Hey, do you know any publishing places that will take a 12 year old seriously? I mean, I'm almost finished with something my friend and I wrote, and (after months and months of editing), we are going to try and get it published. I'm completely ready for the rejection letter, i just don't know any places to get it published. Any ideas?
Ps: don't need to know an editor, i already know one, just a publishing place.

That depends on what genre of work you are trying to publish.
But I really don't know much about publishing. I suggest you call, or have someone else call, some publishers and ask for guidelines in finding a publisher. Be persistent.

As Denithar said, it depends largely on the genre. Some publishing places will take unsolicited work, but most of the major ones won't.
If you're looking for a major publisher (Scholastic, Random House, etc) then you're going to need an agent. To get an agent, well, that's a long and complicated process that begins with a query letter and ends either in rejection or a contract.
As for them taking you seriously.... My advice is don't tell them your age. It doesn't matter, does it? If you thought it mattered, you wouldn't be looking for a publisher anyway. Thus, don't pull the "I'm 12 and AWZUM!" card.
Do your research and find a legit publisher that is interested in similar things to your work. Then, tour their website and find their guidelines and follow them exactly. Most of the time they'll want a query letter and an excerpt if they're a small publishing place. If they're larger, they'll want an agent.
And again, don't play the age card.
