As I said before not that good yet.
Introduction
Yasha paced up and down the corridor, frustrated from his young companions lack of timing. He glanced outside into the flurry of snow whirling around the courtyard on a destructive gush of wind, A dark shape was moving across the ice layered floor slowly battling their way over to the door way. Finally he heard their footsteps and waited impatiently by the door for his friend, but the person approaching was not his friend no quite the opposite; Craster was striding down the hallway, his short cut ebony hair full of the white snow from outside, it was not that Yasha did not like Craster he just distrusted him. Yasha sighed but inclined his head at the magician so he did not seem rude. Craster regarded him with the nod of his head although he did not slow down to talk. Yasha turned back to watching the door for his friend Daryl but nobody came through the open door into the passageway. Scowling Yasha strode up to the heavy bronze and door stared through the small wire mesh window just as his young magician friend reached the doorway to the room. Daryl grimaced in Yasha’s gaze and looked up him but quickly looked down as Yasha started to speak.
“ Were have you been?” Yasha demanded, Daryl was much younger than him so only stayed within Yasha’s influence because he was soon to take his magic exams and Yasha was a very powerful man among the Magicians, Yasha knew as soon as he passed Daryl would abandon his companion for younger friends.
“Sorry, I know I’m not on time but….” Daryl trailed of as Yasha raised an eyebrow at him “ok I overslept happy?”
Yasha turned his head amused, Daryl relaxed but his thin figure was still slightly tense.
“Don’t worry Daryl but I expect you to be here on time tomorrow, If there is a tomorrow” Yasha added quietly.
“Yes Master Yasha” Yasha inclined his head at him suspiciously; Daryl only ever called him Master when something was wrong.
“Is there something you should tell me?” He asked the young Magician distrustfully.
“No, Master” Daryl stammered lowering his gaze to his hands trying to look innocent.
“Daryl! If you don’t tell me now I will have to read your mind” warned Yasha. Daryl looked at him with fear, Mind reading was painful experience used by only the most skilled sorcerers.
“No!” He spluttered, “I mean that won’t be necessary Master”
“Well then what’s wrong?”
“Well nothing really”
“Daryl!”
“Ok I had a slight misunderstanding with Craster”
“Slight misunderstanding?” Yasha considered doubtfully.
“Ok fight if you will” Daryl admitted.
“That’s why he regarded me so stiffly,” Yasha laughed
Daryl smiled confused; Yasha’s mood could change so quickly he could not tell whether he was angry or pleased.
“Do you know why I asked you come down here?” Asked Yasha adjusting his robes so the fell more freely over his wrist.
“No” Daryl shrugged.
“We must see Master Farlight” Yasha told him dryly “I will deal with you and Craster after but for now follow me”
Daryl froze at the thought of visiting Farlight, he was the most powerful magician and Daryl was terrified of him. “Are you sure I must go?”
Yasha looked at him “He asked me to bring you”
“Oh” Daryl replied uncertain what to do.
“You’ll be fine” Smiled Yasha flashing his pearl white teeth.
Daryl followed him up a series of staircases towards the powerful sorcerer’s tower on the top of the castle. They passed other magicians on the way however they were not the only magical beings in the castle, there was a range of magical creatures that took residence in the towers including: unicorns, Pegasus, Werewolves (that were watched constantly to be sure that they did not attack on anyone), Centaurs, A variety of giant insects, Sprites, fairies and of course dragons (though not many people knew they were there).
A dappled unicorn passed Daryl, his iridescent ivory horn glowing softly in the torch lit hallway. The unicorn slowed next to Yasha looking at him through a cool pale azure eye.
“Ah Minlar, how’s your leg?” Yasha inquired to the unicorn that glanced down at his foreleg and lifted it experimentally of the ground. It was then that Daryl noticed with horror that Minlar’s cloven hoof had been almost entirely in half and his leg had been gashed terribly down the front.
“Um, I suppose its getting better” Minlar replied replacing the hoof on the ground “But it still gives me a little trouble”
“Yes, it’s a rather nasty injury” Yasha said with some concern.
The unicorn noticed Daryl’s look of dismay and said “Werewolf, attacked me on the full moon last month” He sighed “I wont be able to accompany you on your yearly trip into town disguised as a pack horse any more”
“Never mind Minlar we’ll try keep you updated” With that Yasha patted the Unicorn on the neck and strode off with Daryl hurrying behind him, still casting sorrowful glances at Minlar.
The stairway up to Farlights tower was different from the rest of the castle, instead of old worn stone the steps were white marble and the banisters were not rotting pine but polished black mahogany. While Yasha admired the beauty and wonder of the staircase Daryl found it all rather sinister. They eventually arrived at Farlight’s large gnarled door at which they were greeted by his low rough voice telling them to enter his study.
The room was vast and richly furnished with gold, precious stones or velvet on almost every object but it was not the luxury of the room that surprised Daryl, it was the large gaping hole in the ceiling that left him gawping in the doorway as Yasha made his way to sit on one of the velvet chairs in front of Farlight’s desk. Only a thin barrier of magic repelled the falling snow from landing on the cold stone floor.
Yasha coughed rousing Daryl from his puzzlement of the ceiling, He quickly strode over to the red oak desk but hesitated before sitting down.
Farlight was middle aged with slight wrinkles furrowing his brow probably from thinking too long about different potions and he had deep lines around his eyes and mouth but his eyes were bright emerald and youthful as he regarded the two other magicians. He inclined his head politely at Yasha who in turn smiled briefly Farlight then turned to Daryl who shifted uncomfortably under the powerful sorcerer’s gaze.
“So this is the young magician I have heard about” Farlight commented holding his gaze steady on Daryl who lifted his eyes level with Farlight’s but quickly looked down at his hands, he had no idea why he thought Farlight was so imposing but until he had passed his tests he would always fear him.
“Yes Master” Yasha confirmed sourly, Yasha belonged to the proud race of the elves that hated calling anybody Master as they believed strongly in freedom.
“Will you soon start your tests Daryl?” Farlight asked Daryl who by now wished he had not turned up.
“Yes High Master” Gulped Daryl still not daring to look up at the face of Farlight.
“As you can probably guess I did not ask you here to make small talk but to request you to do something” Farlight said turning to Yasha.
“And what would that be, Master” He replied dryly.
“The kin are coming” Farlight said simply to Yasha who was all most gawping at Farlight in surprise.
What on earth are The Kin Daryl thought to himself but a sudden noise stirred him from his thoughts. Daryl turned to in his seat to find himself under the icy blue gaze of a frost white Dragon. Her face was delicate and long like a vixen’s and her muzzle was small enough to fit in cupped hands. The scaled on her face were small and clouded white like dew drops in winter. Tiny white spikes lined her eyes like miniature icicles and larger pebble like scales where nestled on her forehead. Down her face was ribbed snow-white armour that ended between her ridged nostrils. At the back of her head two long brittle horns curved elegantly over her back like a gazelle’s. They shimmered pink and blue like pearls at the bottom of the seabed.
Daryl had only ever seen one dragon, the large black male that accompanied Yasha but Daryl had never thought that there were more of them. Malic, Yasha’s dragon, was muscular and heavily built with a massive head that sat atop his armoured neck he was nothing like the pearl white female now looking at Daryl over the velvet backed chair. Daryl had always been wary of Malic despite Yasha saying he was harmless to friends but he did not even know if this one meant him harm or not.
“I will hurt you not” The white dragon assured in a slight foreign accent as if reading Daryl’s mind “I am Miara the second dragon among the mountains”
Sensing Daryl’s confused look Farlight looked at Yasha “Did you ever teach him about the kin?”
“I did not think of it as important” Yasha replied “But he has seen Malic I thought that was enough at least knowing that dragons are real”
“No it is not enough” Farlight snapped making Yasha flinch “Not for what I want him to do”
“Wha…What do you want me to do?” Daryl asked hoarsely as he stared up into the blue grey eyes of Miara.
“To bring the kin here before king Ashgar gets to them,” He replied regarding Yasha coldly.
“But what are the kin?” asked Daryl confused “I haven’t the tiniest idea of what you are talking of”
Farlight banged his fist the table and stared at Yasha,” You haven’t even taught him anything about them”
“I’m sorry” Yasha shook his head a few of his pale blond hairs falling over his face “I did not know it would be useful”
“The Kin” Farlight moved so closer to Daryl “The Kin of the Dragons”
