I am going to be posting every essay I can find on my hard drive, so keep in mind that these were written at different stages of my abilities, and sometimes the teacher would force us to do certain things. Also, we must use a certain (slightly annoying) format and do five paragraphs in our essays.
This was one of my very first essays (first essay of this year, but we only did like two last year, and we didn't do any before high school), but I still managed to scrape an A out of it.
Oh, and I apologize for it sounding forced; I know very well that it does. I forced it.
Also, I have no idea what I want to major in, but I had to sound like I knew what I was doing in this essay.

Cindy Sanders wants to be a nurse. To do this, she plans on going to college and getting on-the-job training. Being a nurse is something she wants to accomplish sometime during her life, thus making it a long term goal of hers. Most people have goals, whether they be short range, mid range, or long range. My main goals that will help move my life along productively include graduating high school with plans for college, becoming independent, and feeling fulfilled with my life.
Within the next few years, I am going to graduate high school with plans for college. As one step on my way to achieving this, I will take the most challenging classes that are available to me. By doing so, I can understand the material in my college classes better. The more advanced courses may also sometimes allow me to get ahead on credits, which might allow me to get a degree early. In addition to taking those classes, I am going to strive for a 4.0 grade average. Most private and highly selective universities look for students with top marks. I want to get a good education from the best school possible, and I think I can qualify academically if I set my mind to the task. Also, as another important step in reaching my goal, I will choose which college I want to attend. As I look through information on various Oklahoma universities, I will search for the one that has the best program for my career choice, which is journalism, and is close enough to home to allow me to visit occasionally. If I take all of these actions, I can soon be completely ready to further my education after high school.
After fulfilling that short term goal of mine, I intend to become independent. As the beginning of my journey to personal freedom, I am going to graduate college with no less than a bachelor’s degree in journalism. With this training I can take the next step; I shall search for a job that will one day allow me to become a journalist or editor. As my career sets off, I can begin to support myself and prepare for the future. Finally, as I reach the end of the road to independence, I will entirely set out on my own. By moving into my own house or apartment, I will no longer require any financial support from my parents. With a college degree, a career, and a home of my own, I will be able to live an independent life at last.
Lastly, I am going to follow through with my long term goal; I will feel fully fulfilled with my life. As one major step toward that aspiration, I aim to raise a family. Children are amongst some of the greatest gifts I can give to the world, and that is a fantastic way to contribute to the good of the future. On top of that, I also want to make a positive influence on society and the world through my journalism. Even if I just inspire the way one person thinks and lives, it will have been worth it. Lastly, I am going to constantly strive to be a better person. By being a good person, I make others better, and I end up leaving a lasting legacy through those I love. If I make positive influences on people’s lives, my life will have had a purpose, and I shall thus be satisfied and fulfilled with it at last.
I always have goals I set for myself, and I am constantly determined to strive for them. I know that without these aspirations, I would be living recklessly day to day with no real reason to my life. By constantly aiming for something, people gain a sort of purpose. One goal will eventually lead to another, and people can better themselves, others, their lifestyles, society, or whatever else they feel is important to influence. By that they can leave a small legacy that will live on and grow long after they are gone.
