(Note: not all links are updated for the new site yet, and this thread may not be updated until I'm totally finished with the updates.)
(Note 2: some of this is outdated, from when Coli was helping me, and it was held at TCC, but you definitely should read it, as almost all of it is still relevant.)

(1A)Because we all have limited powers in the YWG, Coli and myself have decided to take it upon ourselves and hold contests here for guild members.
The thread in which this was originally suggested: here
(1B) Types of contests:
1.) Poetry
2.) Short Stories
3.) Essays/Articles
4.) Story Planning
5.) Creative Writing
6.) Graphics
7.) Miscellaneous
(1C) You are judged on the following in the writing contests (all judge volunteers please read and use this as a guide):
1.) Following the contest instructions.
2.) Creativity.
3.) Proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. in the writing contests.
4.) Effort.
5.) Overall talent.
6.) Anything else the judge deems important to the particular contest (Other).
You are judged on the following in the graphics contests:
1.) Following contest instructions.
2.) Creativity.
3.) Effort.
4.) Overall talent.
5.) Amount and quality of effects.
6.) Anything else the judge deems important to the particular contest (Other).
You will give each entry a rating out of ten (going by increments of 0.5) in each of the six categories. The overall grade will be the average of all ratings. To break a tie for first or second place, just choose by your personal opinion on the entire piece. There is no need to break ties except for the first two places.
(1D) Prizes (you chose which one you receive if you win a contest):
1.) Custom sig banner of your design made by Angie.
2.) Sig banner that states you won the contest.
3.) A set amount of positive karma (on the guild site). The current amount rewarded for all contests is two points for first place and one for second unless otherwise stated. This is subject to change.
4.) A full review from Angie. Examples of how in-depth I go are: here and here.
First place winners get the following limits on their prizes:
1.) Any type of sig, as long as I am able to make it. No brand (described in the second place prize limits).
2.) Gold trophy on the banner.
3.) Two karma.
4.) Three reviews on poems, one review for a full story (not as in-depth), or one in-depth review for two chapters of a story.
Second place winners get the following limits on their prizes:
1.) Reasonably easy-to-make sigs. Brand on it that says "Made by Angie" and a link to this site.
2.) Silver trophy on the banner.
3.) One karma.
4.) Two reviews on poems or one review on one chapter of a story.
All prizes are awarded by me (unless I win, in which case I will make myself a trophy banner, or the judge will award the karma).
(1E) Rules:
1.) Only one entry per contest per person.
2.) Keep all entries clean.
3.) Follow all rules of the guild.
4.) You must be a member of the Young Writers Guild.
(1F) Judges, if you find someone disobeying one of these rules, please notify me at once with a copy of their violation and modify their post accordingly (if needed). Depending on the severity of the breaking of the rules, the rulebreaker may have any of the following punishments implemented by my choice:
1.) Lose all contests he/she is currently in.
2.) Lose karma.
3.) Be put under any of the punishments already set for this forum.
(1G) If you would like to volunteer to be a judge, please PM me with the type of contest you would like to do. If you want to be a permanent judge (always doing the same category), let us know. If you want to be a substitute judge (we would call you when we need you to step in if the previous volunteer backed out or could not be contacted when the contest was supposed to end), please PM us for that as well.
(1H) If you want to participate in a contest, go to the appropriate thread. All old threads are locked, so you can assume it is open if you can post in it. To send in your entry, post it in the appropriate topic (please don't PM us; it's messy business, this private messaging system). Please read the rest of this post before entering any contests.
(1I) If you would like to suggest a subject for a contest, PM me, and I will consider it for the next batch.

1.) Where can I find these contests? They can be found on the Competitions board on this site.
2.) How many contests may I enter? You may enter in as many contests as you wish.
3.) How often do you start new contests? As soon as more than one person is entered in a contest, I create a locked thread for the next round of it and set an ending date for the previous one. After the first contest is over, I move it and open the next one.
4.) *takes breath to ask question, but is interrupted by Angie* Please read this entire thread before asking questions.
