Hi, Guys.
I seem to remember that some of you use GIMP and I thought I'd come in and ask what you think of it.
See, I'm heading off to college next fall and I've been spoiled here at home with the lovely Photoshop program my parents bought me. Unfortunately, I will not be able to bring it to school with me, seeing as it is on my parents computer not mine. I already looked into how much it would cost to buy myself a copy and freaked.
So, now I must do what all poor (future) college students do: look for a free alternative.
Now that you've had a very long explanation for a very simple question... thoughts?

The GIMP can do just about anything that Photoshop can do, but it will seem foreign coming from another program, so you will have to take some time to learn it. Once you do, you'll be just fine with it. *nods*

My tactic (just pressing every button and then closing seemingly important windows which I can't get back) doesn't work.

My tactic (being naturally amazing) works just fine...no...my tactic (learning from my Comm Tech teacher, Mr. Wray) works very well *breaks out into a chorus of "We love you Mr. Melonhead* (long story, dont ask)

SO yeah, I am told by many graphics artists that the GIMP is usually considered the best free alternative to the expensive programs. If you do want to pay for one, I hear paint shop pro is cheaper than photoshop.

The GIMP is great once you get used to it.

*trusts Angie and Ash* Good. I'm trying to save as many dollars as I can. My school bills are already going to be crazy insane. I will just plan on downloading that program once I get my own computer then. My tactic (just pressing every button and then closing seemingly important windows which I can't get back) doesn't work. ha ha. That's how I do it too (minus the closing important windows). It's worked well for me so far. I find the neatest things that the manuals seem to think that I can't do. he he...

Preferrably Angie, as she's the much better GIMPer.
